White Pine Flower Essence

White Pine is known as the Tree of Peace and has long been revered for ki’s* medicine and guidance. White Pine Flower Essence enables us to tap into the wisdom of this very special Tree while also feeling centered, connected, and peaceful, recognizing that all is well.

Healing Gifts of White Pine Flower Essence

As a Tree, White Pine Flower Essence helps to support your root (or 1st) chakra, that is your energy center which helps you to connect to Earth. Your root chakra focuses on feeling safe, grounded, and nourished, which White Pine Flower Essence helps to foster.

Additionally, White Pine Spirit Essence helps you to stand in your center, connected to above and below. When we stand in this place, knowing that we are connected to all and have access to the wisdom of all, we feel incredibly strong, stable, and peaceful. We know that all is well and as it should be. We are able to relax and trust. This place of great connection and knowing is true power. With this power, we soften and let go of control, allowing what needs to happen, happen.

There is much in our culture that can knock us off center or create disturbances in our well-being. White Pine Essence helps to clear unwanted energies including those in the background that act like static, preventing us from hearing our Truth or guidance. As these clear, our Heart calms, reducing anxiety. We find it is easier to breathe.

White Pine Essence helps to support our resiliency, especially during a stressful time or after a trauma. White Pine again helps you to find your center and the deep well of wisdom within you. White Pine Flower Essence provides support during grief and helps to clear and release suppressed grief and resentments.

What White Pine Wants for You

White Pine asks you to pause, to breathe, to recognize the sacred gift of Life. White Pine says, “You carry too much. You can let it go. What else can you release? Let us clear the worries, the shame, the grief. You can let go of the times when you felt unloved or unseen. Those burdens are not yours for you are so very loved.”

White Pine wants you to feel your roots in the ground. Ki says, “Here, let’s stand here together. I can help your roots to go deeper. Do you feel your connection? You are a part of Earth, safe and held.”

As you sense your roots and your connection to Earth, White Pine encourages you to sense your branches and your connection to the Cosmos. “You help to bring the wisdom of the Cosmos together with the wisdom of Earth. Can you sense your connection to all? Know that this connection is your Truth, your birthright. What is more truthful than this connection? This is your strength.”

History of White Pine

White Pine (Pinus strobus) is indigenous to Eastern North America and is a sacred Tree for the Indigenous people of these areas. These Trees are the tallest Trees in Eastern North America, towering over 150’ and can grow for hundreds of years. White Pine has soft needles that grow in a packet of five needles.

Simply spending time with White Pine brings a sense of calm as ki helps your roots to deepen into the Earth and slows your breathing. When I am overwhelmed or stressed, I usually go stand with White Pine. Sometimes, I walk, run, or dance through ki’s branches, asking White Pine to clear my aura. I delight in ki’s aromatic scent and quickly return to a sense of calm with clearer thinking.

It is said that the chiefs of the five warring tribes: Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, and Seneca, met under the branches of an Eastern White Pine to formulate a peace agreement known as Gayanesshagowa or The Great Law of Peace. This agreement led to the creation of the Haudenosaunee (or Iroquois) Nation encouraging unity, working together for the benefit of all. The five needles of White Pine represent the five original tribes coming together as one. The Tuscarora people later joined the Haudenosaunee Nation. Thus, White Pine became known as the Tree of Peace.

White Pine is revered for ki’s lumber. When the colonists arrived, they were amazed by the tall, straight Trees of White Pine. Very quickly the British recognized their use as masts for their ships, which helped to strengthen Britains shipping industry, thus enabling them to build the British Empire (or become the great colonists). The Crown soon claimed ownership of any Tree that was wider than 2 feet. These acts created resentment in colonists and are one of the contributions which led to the Declaration of Independence.

While White Pine is probably most known for ki’s incredible lumber (and for sure, many of our old growth forests were decimated for this lumber), ki is also medicinal. White Pine needles are high in vitamin C, which is particularly helpful during the winter months when not much else is growing. White Pine is an expectorant helping to clear mucus from the lungs and sinuses. I like to include White Pine needles in steams to help open my lungs and sinuses, clear mucus, and deepen my breathing.

The sap of White Pine was often included in salves for healing wounds. In emergency situations, white pine sap applied to a cut can help to stop the bleeding and prevent infection until medical treatment can be received.

White Pine is an ancient Tree who has much to teach us. Ki is an important Guide helping us to navigate these times, encouraging us to find our way to Peace, remembering our connection to all.

*Ki is an animistic, genderless third person pronoun which recognizes the aliveness of our more-than-human kin. To the best of my knowledge, in her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer was the first to suggest using ki.
