Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence
Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence is an Essence unique to Brigid’s Way. This very special environmental Essence was made during a ceremony with the Guardian of the Tiputini Pugyo in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. A pugyo is an energy center for Water. Tiputini Pugyo is an incredible Essence to include when working with Water, both for healing the Waters of the World and the waters of our bodies.
Making of the Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence and the Power of Sacred Sites
The making of the Tiputini Pugyo Essence was one of the strangest and most magical experiences of my life. But first, some understanding of why this Essence was made.
The Tiputini Pugyo lies at the convergence of the Tiputini and Napo Rivers in the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador (part of the Amazon Rainforest). The place where two (or more) Rivers meet is often a power center. In Quechua these are known as pugyos or pukyu. There are other forms of pugyos or Water power centers, such as springs, waterfalls, and others.
Every power center has a guardian spirit. Once upon a time, all of the Water power centers were energetically connected and the guardians thrived. People recognized the importance of these sacred areas and would often bring offerings, perform ceremonies, and visit for healing. Some of these sacred sites and their guardians continue to be honored and fed in this way. However, many have been forgotten and worse, polluted. The guardians of these pugyos have “disappeared,” gone into a deep sleep (I think of this like a coma) due to the neglect and the pollution.
Many have been called to work with Water, to make repairs and amends, helping these sacred places to awaken and flourish again. Ecuadorian ethnobotanist and curandera, Rocío Alarcón, asked a group of us to help awaken the Spirit of the Tiputini Pugyo. This area has long been recognized as a sacred site by the Indigenous people of this region. Just beyond the pugyo is a place of healing clay. For thousands of years, people have come here for healing ceremonies utilizing the clay.

The Yasuni National Park is one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth, for this reason the park was designated as untouchable land, meant to be preserved for the Indigneous peoples, Plants, and Animals. However, this area is also rich in oil reserves; therefore, oil companies have infiltrated the Yasuni and the surrounding area. Driving to this park was eye opening as there were oil pipelines everywhere, under people’s homes, next to rivers, crossing rivers, . . . Our obsession with oil, has greatly impacted the well-being of this area including the Tiputini River.
We set out in two long boats for a ceremony to open the Tiputini Pugyo and then to experience the healing clay. We were accompanied by two guides, a Quechua man and a Huaorani man, along with Rocío. I had received permission from Rocío and later from the River to make an Essence during our ceremony.
As soon as we arrived at this sacred place, our Quechua guide grabbed a few of us and told us to follow him. We did, until Rocío called us back, saying we had gone too far. We needed to give offerings and open the pugyo first. As we were heading back, my foot suddenly got pulled down into quicksand. It took a bit, but I eventually was able to escape (though I did have a moment of absolute terror, having watched too many cartoons.)
We returned to the site, I set up the Essence making, and we began our ceremony led by Rocío and our guides. At one point, I saw a gigantic Anaconda Spirit rise up about 20 – 30 feet out of the River and into the Essence bowl, at which point Rocío said that the ceremony was complete, we were now able to enter. As we discussed our experience, Rocío shared that the Guardian of the Tiputini Pugyo is an Anaconda.
While I was gathering the Essence supplies, I saw one of my friends about to step on the same spot where I got sucked into quicksand. I tried to stop her, but was too late. Only, now the ground was completely solid. I even went back and walked around there, no quicksand. As I said, this was a strange and magical experience (and I’ve only described part of it out of respect for the ceremony.)
Healing Gifts of Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence
We know that Water carries memory and can be energetically imprinted. Think of the imprint our Waters carry as we pollute them with petrochemicals, PCBs, forever chemicals, and more. Sometimes bodies of Water have been so polluted that the individual molecules have forgotten their true Essence, their original purity. The Tiputini Pugyo Essence helps to remind Water of ki’s* Original Essence, helping to revitalize Water. Through this work, Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence helps to reweave the energetic connection of the Waters of the world.
During the making of the Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence, I was told that this Essence helps to open other pugyos or Water energy centers. This Essence is helpful for those who are called to support Water including: resacrilizing a spring, opening a pugyo, cleaning a river, and more.
As we are a part of Earth, we too have pugyos in our bodies, otherwise known as our lymphatic system. Tiputini Pugyo Essence supports the opening and clearing of our pugyos and revitalizes the Waters of our bodies, reminding us of our own sacredness and connection to all.
When we experience a shock our body naturally closes our pugyos and brings our energy inward. (Think about what happens if someone runs a red light right as you are about to pull out into an intersection.) This response is a wonderful form of protection. The problem is that after the incident is over and we are safe, sometimes we remain in this guarded place, our pugyos do not open again, which makes it harder for our bodies to release. Tiputini Pugyo Essence, can help our pugyos to open again and our bodies to release what is blocking us.
What Tiputini Pugyo Wants for You
Tiputini Pugyo asks you to remember your Sacredness, to stand tall in this remembrance, knowing that you are connected to all, no separation. You are a Being of Water, know your pure Essence. Release the pollution that you carry with you, this is not you. You are a sacred being capable of more than you know. Rise into your knowing.
With this remembrance, Tiputini Pugyo asks you to honor your sacred responsibility to love and protect Water. Pure, clean Water is a divine right. Water is the basis of life. Your wellbeing is intricately tied to the wellbeing of the Waters of the world. Tiputini Pugyo encourages you to honor the Waters that you have access to. Sing to them, give offerings and prayers, play with the Water, or simply spend time connecting.
Mantra & Keyphrase of Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence
I AM PURE, CLEAR WATER
Pausing for a few moments to breathe and say this mantra while taking Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence or offering the Essence to a body of Water, can help in the embodiment of the Essence.
Ways to Use Tiputini Pugyo Essence
A drop or two of the Tiputini Pugyo Essence into a body of Water can be used as an offering or blessing helping the Water molecules to remember the original, pure Essence. The Essence is potentized with prayer, song, and ceremony. I include Tiputini Pugyo Essence in my Water Blessing Ceremonies.
To support the lymphatic system or help to energize the Waters of the body, Tiputini Pugyo Spirit Essence can be taken as a dosage Essence over the course of a month or possibly longer if needed. Brigid’s Way sells stock level Essences. For instruction on how to dilute and use a dosage Essence, see our Essence FAQs.
Tiputini Pugyo Essence can be including in a clearing spray to clear your body or a space of unwanted energies and bring in the vibration of purity and flow. Generally we use 4 ounce spray bottles. We fill the bottle with a mixture of 50% high quality, spring Water and 50% vodka or another preservative such as vinegar (note the vinegar will not last as long and will have an odor). We then add 24 drops of each stock Essence included in the spray. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to the spray bottle.
Shake this bottle and then spray ourselves or an area as needed. Usually for a person 2 -3 sprays is sufficient. You can use different size spray bottles, keeping the same ratio, which is 3 drops of stock Essence to ½ ounce of the base liquid.
Taking one drop of the stock bottle of Tiputini Pugyo Essence before a shamanic sound journey or meditation can assist you in connecting with Water or experiencing the pureness of Water’s Original Essence.

*Ki is an animistic, genderless third person pronoun which recognizes the aliveness of our more-than-human kin. To the best of my knowledge, in her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer was the first to suggest using ki.
