Achiote Flower Essence
My attention was drawn to an incredible Tree as soon as we pulled into the Iamoe Center* in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. I knew that this Tree was magical and couldn’t wait to meet and spend time with them. This was my first time seeing an Achiote Tree and I would soon learn that my instincts were right. This is a very magical Tree whose healing gifts have long been revered by the Indigenous peoples of this area. Achiote Flower Essence helps you to remember who you are, aligning with your inner strength. Achiote is an incredible protective Essence who can help you recover from abuse of all kinds.
Historical Use of Achiote
Chances are you do not know this incredible Plant; however, you have probably been eating ki** most of your life. As Achiote, also known as Annatto, is used to color our food, such as yellow cheddar.
Achiote (Bixa orellana) is a sacred Tree growing in the tropical regions of the Americas. The Indigenous peoples of these lands have long utilized the colorful seeds of Achiote as food and medicine. Studies have shown that Achiote seeds contain antioxidants.

When fresh, the Achiote seeds are soft like a berry. The Huaorani of Ecuador and other Indigenous peoples, smash the fresh seeds, painting their faces and bodies with the paste. They consider this ritual to be a form of protection, including protection from evil eyes and other forms of malevolent magic. Achiote enables them to move more easily and safely through the forest. Interestingly, scientific studies have shown that Achiote helps to protect and repair the skin from sun damage and also helps in the healing of wounds.
Healing Gifts of Achiote Flower Essence
As the Indigenous have long known, Achiote Flower Essence is incredibly protective. This Essence helps you to tap into your own hidden Wild, Wise One. Often this Wise One gets suppressed through culturalization. Achiote Flower Essence helps you to reconnect and remember your inner strength and wisdom. This is particularly helpful after recovering from abuse, healing deep wounding, or any time you have lost your sense of Self. Achiote supports your recovery and integration.
Achiote Flower Essence can provide support for the recovery of eating disorders and helping to heal body image issues. As you align with your Inner Wild, Wise One, you feel safer and more embodied.
Achiote Flower Essence strengthens your self-confidence, helping you to embrace your power. While our culture often confuses power with abuse, real power is knowing who you are and that you are connected to all. We stand tall, when we can embody our Truth.
What Achiote Flower Essence Wants for You
Achiote wants you to remember that you are incredibly powerful. Ki invites you to tap in and own your power, to become conscious of the ways in which you use this power as well as the ways in which you give this power away. Achiote asks, “Are you truly engaging with life or are you letting life pass you by, getting tossed about by the challenges, and letting others decide your fate?”
Achiote encourages you to look in the mirror and see the inner spark in your eyes. You may have to look deep, for the spark may be quite low; however, ki is there. Achiote encourages you to kindle the spark, remember what lights you up. Perhaps you can see your inner Wild, Wise One. Achiote encourages you to let this Wild One roar.
Achiote offers to wrap you in ki’s cloak of invisibility, providing protection from anyone who would wish you harm, helping you navigate the world with a sense of strength and safety.
If the wounds are too fresh or too deep to be able to feel safe, Achiote invites you to lean on ki while you bring the pieces back together and heal. Ki wants you to know how incredibly brave and beautiful and wonderful you are. Your Soul shines so bright. No one is able to take that from you. No matter how hard they may try to break you, no matter how small your spark may have gotten, your Soul continues to shine. Achiote wants to help you remember your spark, your Truth. Ki says, “You are stronger and wiser than you realize.”

Pausing for a few moments to breathe and say this mantra while taking Achiote Flower Essence can help in the embodiment of the Essence.
Ways to Use Achiote Flower Essence
Brigid’s Way sells stock level Essences. Achiote Flower Essence can be diluted and taken as a typical dosage Essence or combined with other Essences in a blend. (For instruction on how to dilute and use a dosage Essence, see our Essence FAQs.)
If you would like to get in touch with your hidden Wild, Wise One, want to do exploratory trauma healing work, or want to investigate power, you could take one drop of Achiote stock Essence before going on a shamanic sound journey or engaging in a meditation practice.
The stock Essence of Achiote could also be included in a spray for protection. Spray yourself or your space with one or two squirts whenever you feel the need for protection. Providing a good daily protection helps to limit the amount of malevolent energies we pick up, thus lessening the drama and illness. You may want to spray yourself more frequently If you are an empath, are interacting with antagonistic people, do healing work, have poor boundaries, or work in a public setting.
