Corn Flower Essence

Corn and humans have a long, synergistic history of evolving and growing together. Humanity has been nourished and sustained by Corn, which is why ki1 is often referred to as The Great Corn Mother or as I referred to ki. Grandmother Corn. Corn Flower Essence reminds us of our inherent connection to all, healing the myth of separation, and helping us to connect more deeply with Nature, especially Plants.

Healing Gifts of Corn Flower Essence

Try to imagine a field of Corn swaying gently in the wind with the sun shining and blue skies above. Each individual stalk stands there with their flower erect, reaching to the sky like an antenna. This image carries the signature of Corn Flower Essence. The Corn Flower helps to activate your own antenna, helping you to be more receptive to the energy and wisdom you need to support your growth and evolution.

As the wisdom and energy flows in and grounds through your body, you remember your inherent connection to all, there is no separation. Corn Flower Essence helps you to tap into Unity Consciousness and deepen your connection with Nature, especially fostering communication with Plants.

Through these actions, Corn Flower Essence supports the awakening of humanity. Ki encourages us to be Sacred Humans, seeing life as a prayer. Showing us that we create the world, Corn Flower Essence supports you in creating the life you want.

The practice of indoctrinating people through religion has caused great harm to humanity. Sometimes these attempts resulted in physical abuse (even death); sometimes they create anxiety, fear, or confusion; and other times they can crush one’s sense of self. These actions can cause us to turn our back on the Divine, which that in of itself is Soul crushing. Corn Flower Essence helps to heal and release the wounds caused by the indoctrination of religion. Additionally, Corn supports developing a personal relationship with the Divine, knowing that no intermediary is necessary, recognizing the Divine within, as well as all around. Corn Flower Essence opens the Heart enabling you experience and receive Love.

Corn Flower Essence supports your connection with the flow of abundance, reminding you that you are surrounded by abundance. Ki helps to clear beliefs or patterns that block you from experiencing this abundance, including helping you to open to receiving.

What Corn Flower Essence Wants for You

Corn Flower Essence wants you to know that there is so much more to this world and you than you can even imagine. Ki asks you to open your Heart and receive. Receive the Love that surrounds you, the Love from the Ancestors, the Love from Earth, the Love from the Multiverse, the Love from Corn. Can you simply breathe and allow this Love to fill you?

Corn says that by receiving you tap into the flow of the Universe, the Multiverse. This Love helps to heal the beliefs and traumas that have kept you small, believing that you are separate. Corn wants you to awaken to your Truth, stand in your power as a creator, helping life to continue and evolve.

Corn encourages you to move through the world as if moving through a sacred Temple, for you are. Ki asks you to offer prayers, sing, dance, and interact with Nature, your other-than-human kin. It is through these actions that you remember your own sacredness, your own divinity. And it is through these actions that you create the world of your Heart.

When in doubt, Corn says, “Breathe and receive.”

Mantra & Keyphrase of Corn Flower Essence

I FLOW WITH ABUNDANCE

Pausing for a few moments to breathe and say this mantra while taking Corn Flower Essence can help with the embodiment of the Essence.

Ways to Use Corn Flower Essence

Corn Flower Essence can be taken as a dosage Essence over the course of a month or possibly longer if needed. This method is especially helpful if trying to shift and heal limiting beliefs or patterns. Brigid’s Way sells stock level Essences. For instruction on how to dilute and use a dosage Essence, see our Essence FAQs.

Take 1 drop of the stock bottle of Corn Spirit Essence before meditating, going on a shamanic journey, or creating art to receive guidance from Corn, support your awakening, tap into Unity Consciousness, or simply enhance your practice. Here is information for exploring Essences with shamanic sound journeys.

Corn Flower Essence can be added to a spray for abundance, opening the Heart, or to help with receiving. I add 12 drops of the stock Essence to a 2 ounce spray bottle filled with 50% vodka and 50% purified water. (The vodka acts as a preservative without adding much aroma.) Other supportive Essences can be added to the spray bottle.

To work with Corn Flower Essence for healing the wounds of religious indoctrination (including those that have been inherited), I prefer to take 3 drops of the stock Essence before bed for 5 nights. Pay attention to your dreams and your emotional state. It is possible that blocked memories may surface. If the memories or other experiences are too intense, please stop. You can also add Essences for support. Consider working with a therapist or having other support to navigate this healing process with greater ease.

Story of Corn

In Communicating with Plants, I write: “It is generally believed that Corn evolved from Teosinte in what we now call Mexico. I have heard accounts that this evolution occurred seven to ten thousand years ago. Some scientists claim that this was a natural form of evolution, while others state that the Indigenous peoples bred and selected the Plants to create a more edible form which evolved into Corn. One of the great gifts of Corn is the ability to adapt and respond to the environment and people. It is this adaptability that has led to the enormous number of varieties of Corn and the many different colors, shapes, and sizes. Again, scientists are trying to understand how Corn has evolved and spread through the Americas and they often get stumped. Though to me it seems obvious: Corn has a deep intimate connection with the people who grow ki. There is no separation, or at least once upon a time there wasn’t. This is why each Indigenous group in a certain area had their unique, Sacred Corn varieties.”2

This Essence was made with a special Corn (Zea mays) that I grow called Birth/Death Corn which comes from the Tz’utujil Maya in Guatemala. The Tz’utujil Maya consider themselves to be Corn as do many other Indigenous peoples. They utilize this Corn in ceremonies including the naming ceremonies for their children and the death rites ceremonies. Martín Prechtel tells the remarkable story of this Corn in his book, The Unlikely Peace at Cuchumaquic: The Parallel Lives of People as Plants: Keeping the Seeds Alive. This story is one of perseverance, resilience, and deep Love.

Growing Birth/Death Corn has shown me the intimate connection with Corn and people. This Corn was always grown with prayers and ceremony, unlike the huge fields of Corn growing by me. Corn asks me to sing to ki, to offer my prayers. I have seen that my songs and prayers impact the quality of the harvest. One year when I thought I was too busy to sing, the cobs were tiny, deformed with only a few kernels, very different from our typical harvest. I tend to grow Corn close to my deck. When my students are here, I can watch the stalks lean towards them as they eat and talk. Corn invites us into relationship, ki wants us to remember our kinship and our sacred role as co-creators.

  1. Ki is an animistic, genderless third person pronoun which recognizes the aliveness of our more-than-human kin. To the best of my knowledge, in her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer was the first to suggest using ki. ↩︎
