The Spirit of Ayahuasca shares that it is time for a shift in consciousness. Things that you may have thought as important will become meaningless. By awakening this consciousness and working with your Nature kin, you can create a more loving world where all beings thrive.

The Making of Ayahuasca Flower Essence
Brigid’s Way Ayahuasca Spirit Essence was made at the Iamoe Centre in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. The Iamoe Centre is run by Dr. Rocío Alarcón with a focus of preserving the ancient knowledge, traditions, and natural habitat of the Amazon Rainforest. This place is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, absolutely bursting with life. Here there is no separation from Nature, for you quickly realize that survival is based on your relationship with Nature including your ability to connect with the Unseen. The Indigenous peoples of this region including the Huaroni and Quechua people, recognize Ayahuasca as a Beloved, a Guide, and a great healer, a sacred Plant to tend and honor. It is within this context that Brigid’s Way Ayahuasca Flower Essence was co-created.
At this sacred sanctuary, I connected an Ayahuasca vine to the Music of the Plants device which translates the electrical vibrations of Ayahuasca into musical notes. Grandmother Ayahuasca quickly learned how to play this instrument.
With the Plant Spirit of Ayahuasca’s permission and guidance, we engaged in ceremony to co-create Brigid’s Way Ayahuasca Spirit Essence. This Essence contains the energetic matrix of Ayahuasca including ki’s healing gifts and the vibrations of Ayahuasca’s song. The Essence is infused and imprinted with the Spirit of Ayahuasca (which is why we often refer to this as a Spirit Essence). No physical components of Ayahuasca were utilized in the making of this Essence; therefore Ayahuasca Flower Essence is not psychotropic.

Historical Use of Ayahuasca
A shamanic Plant, Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis caapi) grows in the Amazon Rainforest, as well as other forests in Northern and Western South America. This sacred Plant has long been cultivated and utilized for ki’s incredible healing capabilities including as an anti-parasitic (extremely important in this environment) and to alleviate pain.
Ayahuasca which means “Spirit Vine” is most known for the ancient shamanic ceremonies where ki is combined with DMT containing Plants (like Guayusa, Chacruna, and hundreds of others) to create an entheogenic (aka psychedelic) brew, also commonly referred to as Ayahuasca.
Ayahuasca is a MAO inhibitor (or Monoamine oxidase inhibitor). Which means that Ayahuasca slows the breakdown of DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) in the body. DMT, also known as “the spirit molecule”, is a hallucinogenic that is naturally found in some Plants, Animals, and in small quantities in our own bodies. DMT can also be manufactured in a lab. The hallucinogenic effects of DMT are said to feel spiritual in nature and euphoric, hence the nickname. It is believed that DMT is released from our bodies during the dying process and possibly during near death experiences.
DMT is fast acting and an experience generally only lasts minutes. When ingested orally, DMT is quickly broken down by the enzyme monoamine oxidase to the point that generally, it is rendered ineffective. Therefore, in order for DMT to produce a psychotropic experience orally, ki needs to be combined with a MAO inhibitor like Ayahuasca.
The Plants utilized in the entheogenic brew as well as the ceremonies vary depending on the cultural practices of different areas. People engage in Ayahuasca ceremonies to receive healing, to increase one’s understanding, for divination, to induce visions, and to experience Oneness. Depending on which Plants are combined with Ayahuasca, the entheogenic mixture can be quite intense causing vomiting and diarrhea. While this is the most commonly understood form of an Ayahuasca ceremony, it is not the only possibility. In some ceremonies, the Curandero is the only one who ingests the medicine. Some combinations of Plants do not elicit the puking and purging.
A Caution
With the increased popularity around Ayahuasca ceremonies, especially among Americans and Europeans, the amount of centers, practitioners, and ceremonies focused on Ayahuasca has also increased. Some of which do not have the proper training or ethics in holding a sacred container. True Ayahuasca Curanderos, sometimes called Vegetalistas, are trained often starting in childhood and dedicate their life to the medicine of Ayahuasca.
There are numerous accounts of people experiencing physical, sexual, and energetic assault during the ceremonies both by other participants and the people leading the ceremonies. As with any sacred ceremonial experience, it is important that significant research is done to be sure that the experience is safe for you.
In addition to researching the safety and integrity of the center and practitioners, it is also vital that you evaluate your own well-being and intentions. I have had several clients who experienced psychotic breaks as a result of their Ayahuasca ceremony and others who had malevolent magic done to them by the ceremonial leader. If you are struggling to function or just don’t feel like yourself after experiencing an Ayahuasca ceremony, contact a practitioner who is skilled in the removal of malevolent energies and/or Soul retrievals.
Above all, if you choose to engage in an Ayahuasca ceremony, please do so in a manner that is respectful of the Plant and the people (including the Land and their communities) who have long cultivated a relationship with Ayahuasca. Some believe that Ayahuasca ceremonies have been utilized for 5000 years as depicted in pottery. While Ayahuasca generously share’s ki’s gifts with humanity, we need to remember how to be good relatives, which includes engaging in reciprocity and ensuring that this ceremony may continue on with respect and integrity for thousands of years.

*Ki is an animistic, genderless third person pronoun which recognizes the aliveness of our more-than-human kin. To the best of my knowledge, in her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer was the first to suggest using ki.
